Gilt lettering to spines. Six spine compartments, each gilt-ruled with gilt roll, and diamond devices with leaf within each. Marbled edges and endpapers. Some rubbing and very minor shelf nicks to extremities and some scuffing to boards, but overall a compact and lovely set, very tightly bound. Second Free endpaper to Volume I bears the inked inscription: "Frankie, from Uncle Allie, January 1st 1872". Each play preceded by a line drawing, on thick card stock. Judging from condition of the pages, I really don't think Frankie ever opened this set to read. If I could reach back 150 years and give Frankie a bit of advice, I might have asked him to at least read Romeo and Juliet. Very Good .
