Gilt title and two small brown designs to spine. Rubbing to extremities; corners bumped.Stains to front board. Cloth just separating from 5 inches of rear joint, but holding. Top edge rough-trimmed, fore-edge and bottom edges untrimmed. Elaborate initial caps and tailpieces throughout, bracketed side notes present to some of text, and numerous in-text illustrations. Marcus Ward & Co. Limited, stamped in purple to front pastedown, with "Reference Copy. Feb. 92" handwritten in ink, below.Title page in red and black, with red wax seal. New seal of city of Belfast to verso of title page. Very light foxing, most noticeably to endpapers. Map: "A Bird's-Eye View of the City of Belfast, 1890", 12 x 10 inches. In black and white with red ink overlay showing extent of Belfast in 1690. Light foxing to edges of map. Bottom left corner of map creased, but only in margin. Includes a prefixed "Chronical List of Notable Events with the History of Belfast to the present time". The "Town Book" is an important strand of primary information that helps chart the development of Belfast, describing the working of the Corporation with limited political power but still having an impact on peoples' everyday lives and business.
