Frontis, 47 portraits and illustrations. Dark bluegreen cloth with gilt illustration of sharpshooter, title in gilt. Inscribed, signed and dated [Christmas 1900] by George E. Albee, who was a member of the Wisconsin Sharpshooters in 1862. His photograph is opposite page 190 in the book. Condition: Cover illustration and title are faded, spine dulled. Bottom of spine has some frays as usual, corners bumped. Interior has a resolution from the Association of Survivors of the 36th Wis. Vol. Infantry pasted down to rear endpaper. Text clean, binding sound. Mark to bottom edge near front corner. All in all a good+ solid copy. Comprehensive history enlivened by numerous personal narratives. Note: The inscription is from George Albee to his sister. George E. Albee [1845-1918] enlisted in Company G [Wisconsin], Beridan's Sharpshooters in June 1862. He was discharged after suffering wounds during the Second Battle of Bull Run. He later re-enlisted serving as a lieutenant and later a Captain and Major. He received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Indian Wars. As noted in the appendix [page 522] Albee was an expert marksman, winning a gold medal at one contest and setting record scores. Albee is buried at Arlington National Cemetary. Good+ .
