He participated in a number of arms-smuggling operations across dangerous borders, successfully prevented a wholesale massacre of his village by the Belgrade-led Serbs, and forming the AAK (Alliance for the Future of Kosovo) entered politics. In 2004-2005 . He briefly served as Prime Minister of Kosovo, before being accused of war crimes.
