In the original black cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrappers. This collection is comprised of five volumes of an eighteen-volume set of short stories by Guy de Maupassant. These works were the first UK editions, translated by Ernest Boyd and Storm Jameson. Dated using Jisc, with copies of the work held at the University of Oxford libraries. Guy de Maupassant has been celebrated as master of the short story, known for his depictions of human lives, social forces and destiny. This particular collection is comprised of Little Roque, Day & Night Stories, Mademoiselle Fifi, That Pig, Morin and The Sisters Rondoli. Each work is in the scarce, unclipped dust wrapper, presenting a list of each work included in the set, as well as the original pricing of 3s. 6d. With a previous owners ink inscription of Kathleen Stenning. In the original black cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, generally smart, with light soiling to the boards. Light bumping to the extremities. Hinges slightly strained but holding firm. Offsetting and ink inscriptions to the front endpapers. Dust wrappers in good condition, with age toning to the wraps and darkening to the spine. Light chipping to the wraps, with the occasional tear. Tear to the length of the rear joint of the wrap of 'That Pig Morin&apos. Light marks to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good/Good.
